Picking
the Date
Have
you always dreamed of a winter wedding, complete with velvets and holly?
Or is a Autumn wedding, enhanced by the colours of changing leaves, more
your style?
Choose your wedding date carefully, as this decision will impact many
others -- attire, style, colour scheme, food, and location. For example,
your bridesmaids won't be able to wear velvet dresses if you marry in
December.
You should also take work and school schedules into consideration. And,
if you choose a holiday weekend for your wedding, friends or family might
be out of town or already have plans. Then again, if you are having interstate
guests and you give them enough warning, a long weekend is perfect as
it allows extra travelling time.
Some people like to marry on dates that already have special meanings,
like Valentine's Day, their birthday, or their parents' anniversary. Remember
however, that special dates will book out way ahead of time so be as early
to book as you can.
If you are planning a religious ceremony, keep in mind that some religions
prohibit weddings at certain dates and times. For example, most Christian
and Catholic churches will not perform weddings on a Sunday or during
Lent. Likewise, a Jewish wedding may not take place on the Sabbath (from
sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday), during the High Holy days,
the three weeks before Tisha B'Av, and the period between Pesach and Shavuot.
If cost is an issue for you then it is definitely worth considering a
winter wedding, or selecting a date that falls on a Friday or Sunday.
If you are prepared to be flexible with the date but not your dream venue,
simply ask them to advise you based on your requirements.
